First came Harvard. Then equity research at Goldman Sachs, followed by nonprofit educational work. Now Ashley Prince is in the joint MA/MBA program that allows her to simultaneously pursue master’s degrees from the Graduate School of Education and the Graduate School of Business.

But there was even more she wanted to do. All it took was surviving a week of auditions against hundreds of competitors. That’s how Prince, 25, won a spot as a 2014 member of the San Francisco 49ers cheerleading squad, the Gold Rush.

“I try to always push myself not to be put in any kind of box,” says Prince, adding that dancing, football and education are all in the same category of personal passions. She says she’s found enormous camaraderie with the other cheerleaders because of their dance technique and dedication to quality performances. “Our fans are also little girls,” she notes.
